W. D. Case: I was born in the fall of 1947 in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. That year Oak Ridge had a population of over 30,000 inhabitants. Six years earlier, the town of Oak Ridge did not even exist. Something happened between those years that changed everything. It was called the Manhattan Project.
